There’s nothing quite like gathering around a warm fire on a cold winter night. If you’re lucky enough to have a fireplace in your home, you know the importance of having the right accessories. A good fireside setup can make all the difference in terms of comfort and ambiance. In this blog post, we will discuss five must-have accessories for every fireplace!

Companion Set

First and foremost, you’ll need a good set of fireplace tools. This should include a poker, tongs, and brush to help you manage the fire. These are generally called companion sets and come in a set of four tools. The shovel – for scooping up the ashes, A poker – for moving the hot logs or coals in the fire to better place them to help the fire to continue burning and keeping you warm and help with opening and closing the damper, Some tongs – to help you safely place more logs or coals onto your fire, And a brush – to help with those messes of flying ash and soot dirt.

Fireplace Guards

It’s also important to have a screen to keep sparks from flying out of the fireplace. This is especially so if you have pets and/or young children. A fireplace screen can help keep your home safe as well as being stylish. A fire screen allows you to enjoy the crackling fire of an open hearth while preventing the escape of hot embers from the burning logs.

Fire fuel storage

If you are privileged to have an open fire or a stove in your living room, you maybe aware that you will need to store fuel for your fire in a safe place. Whether that may wood or coal, there are many ways to safely keep these fuels stored away ready for use. For storing wood you would need a wood basket or carrier, these come in many shapes and sizes. The Pewter finish fireplace accessories would look stunning in an all white living room or against a brick fireplace.

Coal Skuttle

A coal bucket is the perfect way to store your coal, and gives you easy access to top up your fire with more coal. These can look really stylish, even if it is used as a decor piece next to an unused fireplace.

Log Storage

A log storage is a great way to store logs, and keep them dry. Indoor log storage can be modern or rustic looking, and can be freestanding or wall mounted, baskets or a metal bucket. Always adding to your fireplace décor. Some incorporate their wood storage into the wall, making it space saving and giving a great interior design look. You have also probably got an outside storage of logs to help keep them dry, the logs need to be under cover and lifted off the ground to help with air circulation.

Kindling Storage

We have some lovely kindling storage buckets that match the Log buckets. Comes in a pewter or copper finish.

Ash Bucket

After cleaning your fire, you’ll need somewhere convenient to dispose of the ashes. A decorative metal bucket provides the perfect receptacle- it needs to be metal as it will hold hot ashes and embers. It should also have a tight-fitting lid so if it’s knocked over, the ashes won’t spill all over your carpet! Cast iron or ceramic ash bucket could also be used for hot embers.

Match Storage

Matches can be stored in a number of ways, but the most convenient is to have them near your fireplace. Our match holders are stylish and match the Log buckets and Kindling buckets, such a classic set that would look good and help decorate in a modern fireplace through to a farmhouse fireplace.

Optional extras?

Andirons are also known as fire dogs and support the firewood allowing air to circulate below for a more efficient fire. They are available in a variety of antique and modern styles that will add character to your fireplace.  Most andirons can be used without a grate.

Hearth Rug

Rugs near your fireplace help to protect your flooring, although this is essential especially if you already have a fireplace guard. A rug of course, can add colour and texture to your room too.

Handheld Bellows

The ideal way to recuperate a dying fire is to give it a blast of air without blowing ashes around. And handheld bellows are the go-to accessory for that purpose. This simple but necessary accordion-like tool sucks air into its bag and out into the fireplace. The safe addition of oxygen wakes up the dying embers to extend the life of your fire.
